Statement

A resident of San Francisco, California, Tyler Abshier began his professional career painting the flat landscapes of his native Central Valley. Anchoring his compositions with the country roads that emphasized a strong sense of perspective, the artist hoped to capture the understated beauty that he felt the surrounding farmland possessed, allowing viewers to see it in a new, more favorable light. These paintings proved popular, and their success allowed him to improve his work and expand his range into new landscapes.

Today Tyler's paintings include landscapes, seascapes, and cityscapes from California and beyond, all executed in a sharp-edged, painterly style that he calls 'methodical impressionism.' In his free time, he also produces detailed pencil drawings in the same genres, both as standalone works and as illustrations for books. He exhibits regularly at galleries in Modesto, Pleasanton, and Sacramento, and with the Red Umbrellas artist group in San Francisco.
